You are free to choose the direct flights but for cheap tickets, it is more preferable to choose the connected flight which would take maximum travel duration of 6hrs to reach Port Blair. A number of domestic flights provide daily services to Port Blair which travellers from within the city could make use of.

Go By Water

Ships are one of the longest but the best-connected transportation mode to Port Blair. It would be one of the best mode of travelling for voyage lovers where the beauty of the setting sun and sunrise. Unfortunately, direct ferry services are not made available from Pune to Port Blair. Travellers will have to reach to Chennai, Kolkata or Vishakapattanam via flight or train which are the nearest ports from where regular ships are made available to Port Blair. Chennai would be the preferable destination from where you could avail train or flight as the city lies closer to Pune and covers a travel distance of 22hrs via train and 1hr 40min via a flight. The only difficulty in travelling on ship is the travel duration, which would be from 3 to 4 days and least convenient.

Cellular Jail National Memorial

Cellular Jail reminds the gruesome years of the colonial period. Each corner of the jail reminds the horrible tortures faced by the freedom fighters. Atrocious punishments were imposed on prisoners and this jail is also known as ‘Kala Pani’. On 11th February 1979, cellular jail was declared as a ‘national memorial’ by the Prime Minister of India, Moraji Desai.

Visiting hours: for the Cellular Jail are between 9:00am to 4:45 Pm.

Light and Sound show timings: 5:30 Pm – 6:30 Pm, 6:45 pm – 7:45 pm, 8:00 pm – 9:00 pm, 9:15 pm – 10:15 pm (Hindi) on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. 8:00 Pm – 9:00 Pm (English) on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The price of the show is Rs.50/- per head.

Admission cost: is Rs.30/-. Camera-Rs.100/-. Video camera-Rs. 200/- respectively.

Tip: The jail remains closed on Public Holidays.

Neil Island

Ross Island

Ross Island was known as the headquarters of Britishers during the colonial period.
